As Forcadas
Built in the early 60's, the reservoir of As Forcadas is fed by the river of the same name and is among the parishes of Vilaboa and Loira. With a capacity of 10.7 hm3, usually maintaining a high flow rate, with exceptions such as the historic year 1988. But the interest of the visit is in other aspects.
For example, in the capacity for water sports. The municipal pier facilitates sailing and kayak. Also is an ideal place for the practice of fishing.
The routes that emerge from the reservoir and let you get lost by the way, even ascending to Pico Agudo, although we should not lose sight of the swamp, interesting to bird watching.
Chapel of hunger
In Liñeiro (Vilarrube) is one of the most recognized points of the Pilgrimage of St. Andrew, a chapel that is named "hunger" by the stop that made the pilgrims, to feed and regain strength lost during the trip.
The build of the chapel is of late sixteenth century, as a priest of Vilarrube Don Pedro Tenreiro Lago. Although the architecture is very simple and austere, inside you can enjoy a renaissance altarpiece.
Church of San Vicente
The church of San Vicente de Meirás was built in the twentieth century, under a Gothic style. The plan is a Latin cross. The main facade is the most remarkable of the building.
Church of Santa Eulalia
Built in 1903 in a historicist style, the church of Santa Eulalia de Valdoviño has a Latin cross plan, with a single nave, to which were added two separate sections in the sides of the rectangular chancel.
Outside the church shows different internal volumes. The walls are plastered and painted white, except the corners and main facade. The latter is the most prominent feature of the building in which is concentrated all the decor.
Church of Santiago (Lago)
The parish church of Santiago de Lago is probably the most prominent example of religious architecture in Valdoviño, thanks especially to maintain almost unchanged from its appearance.
The plant has a single nave church with a choir loft located on the first leg, and a rectangular chancel with a plane front. Different bodies have different heights, resulting in an interesting game outside volume. It's here, outside, where are the highlights of the temple, especially on the main facade, the epicenter of the ornamentation.
On the rectangular entrance, framed by moldings and pillars, opened a niche that keeps the image of St. James. At the next level is a rectangular window illuminating the area of the choir loft. On the far right of the facade rose a bell tower consists of four piers that lead to as many arched recesses, where the bells are covered. In the second section, delimited by a cornice, rose a small dome on an octagonal drum galonada, giving an ornamental character to the latter body.
To the right of the church stands the rectory, a fine example of traditional architecture of the region.
Joselito’s House
This is a large mansion built by a Galician returnee emigrant situated just off the road between Valdoviño and Cedeira. Built in a H-shape, this two-storey building is made up of two parallel sections and a further transversal section with separate flat tile gable roofs. One side of the house features a portico with a covered terrace, wich was probably added at a later date.
The main façade features numerous openings arranged symmetrically. Both storeys are decorated with horizontal rows of bricks. This makes the front section of the house far more decorative than the other plainer façades that have feature several openings, some of which are crowned by Holdings combining painted cement and brick.
Lighthouse of A Frouxeira
The lighthouse of Point Frouxeira presents a modern design which leaves no one indifferent. Built in 1992, began operating two years later, with a range that goes from 15 to 23 miles.
In 2007 there were reforms involving the removal of the glass facade, the closure of spaces for the stairs, leaving only windows on each level, and strengthening the pillars.
The visit make possible to enjoy an unique panoramic, with the beach and lagoon of A Frouxeira to the northeast and cliffs of O Porto, with the chapel of the same name, and Meirás to the southwest.
Pazo da Riva
This irregular plan two-storey manor house is situated in A Riva, in the parish of Valdoviño.
Particularly worthy of note are the two Worden galleries, one painted green and the other red, as well as the sun dial and the noble coat of arms.
This manor house is associated with the House of Ponce de León, a noble Galician family from the Rías Altas area. It is also known that in the early 18th Century it belonged to a Pardo de Andrade, a member of one of the area’s noble families.
Pazo de Vilarrube
Private property can not be visited, the manor house of Vilarrube is situated in an enviable setting with a panoramic view of the beach of Vilarrube and the Cedeira Cove.
The building is large, have irregular shape, which comes a series of sections with different characteristics. The galleries, present on several fronts, are of special interest.
The chapel, next to housing, known for its baroque altarpiece. The gardens have trees of various species and a granary, and are adorned with many shields and religious figures.
Porto Chapel
One of the most special places in the municipality is the chapel of O Porto. In an area marked by the severe weather, the beach of O Porto is crowned by the small chapel.
Legend has it that some fishermen found a picture on the sea and picked her up, bringing it to earth. The next day the image was found at sea again, so we decided to make a chapel, calling that image as the Virgin of O Porto.
A popular pilgrimage and procession is celebrated here every 11 July.
Porto do Cabo
In the final stretch of the Way to Saint Andrew, in its passage through Valdoviño, is Porto do Cabo.
This is a place that besides being interesting to the pilgrims, is an ensemble that deserves a visit, with the medieval bridge, the hosting of the Casa of the Bastona and mills on the banks of the river.
The bridge was built in small pieces of stone, with a large arch and a smaller size. Both are surrounded by a layer of quarry stone arranged in a radial direction.
